Groet is on the northern side of National Park the Schoorlse Duinen. It is here where the dunes do not reach as far inland as they do at the nearby village of Schoorl, where they are over 5 kilometers wide. From Groet the distance towards the beach is a mere 2 kilometers over relative flat terrain, or 10 minutes by bicycle. There is plenty to do in this unusual landscape: From the open sea to the flat polder, high dunes and pine forest, to dune ponds full of life. The area is known for its varied bird life and in autumn a plethora of different mushrooms (800+ different types) can be spotted. Please do have a look at the video's that I added to the bottom of this page to get an idea of the nature and the landscape around Groet.
If you're lucky....you might run into this little fellow :-)
We love to stay at the beach and watch the sunset without the stress of having to hop into the car to drive back into the busy city.
The Schoorlse Duinen are well known for the wide varieety of mushrooms
Eb and flood continuously changes the patterns of the shoreline.
A bit to the north is the flat and low lying Pettemerpolder just behind the Hondsbosse Zeewering. While 100 meters behind the appartment you can walk into the Dunes (some of them up to 55 meters high) and decide on following a marked route, or create your own route. Without a map you can actually loose your sense of direction and walk much longer than you might have set out to do from the start.
The "backyard" or playground of the appartment.
